    Re: lake poinsett (chief0902)

The best advice I know is to go and fish it. I"ve got several spots I like and have a few wins on this lake. I'll share these spots with you, most of the guys that know me know what my favorite lure is on that lake and the spots I fish anyway but some don't. Give me a call.

Chief, The lake has very little standing timber these days. You can fish the lake in numerous ways, depending on your lure of choice. There are numerous pockets and creek channels and flats. You will be able to fish deep or shallow. Don't rule out jerkbaits for the next month or so; I have caught some killer stringers down there on them in the last 20 years or so. Jerks this time of year will be best on the main lake secondary points fished in 7 to 10 ft. of water. Right now the water is still cold and fish will bite, although most are somewhat sluggish. Three or four days of warming weather will change this dramatically though. Also, grubs or yamamoto's fished along the levee rip rap can and will produce some fish...................Good Luck, Roger

    Re: lake poinsett (dubois80cc)

Poinsett is a terrible lake to fish! If you catch a two and a half pounder you are doing good! I have fished it all my life, and I have seen 0ne 5 fish limit over 14 pounds. That had a seven pounder in it! These days if you have 5 fish that weigh 8 pounds you are most likely a winner. There was a tournament there about 2 weeks ago, winner had 10- 12.in. keepers that weighed around 12 pounds and second was 2- keepers The game and fish needs to start all over. Well I guess you can tell that I love this lake Good luck!!!

    Re: lake poinsett (DIRECTOR)

We had our N.E.A. Bassmasters tx on Poinsett today :
    First 5/4.09lbs Fred sr.
    Second 4/2.77lbs Fred jr
    Third 4/2.58lbs Leon G.
This lake needs a lot of work , I'm not a expert but some one with the AG&F needs to take notice of 4-5 years of no growth. Yes a win is a win but weight would be a nice addition

    Re: lake poinsett (DIRECTOR)

Yes Sir, I will agree, it does need to have some work on it. I was told Fred , that we need to start keeping a lot of those dinks. That will start helping get some of the ratio in perspective..............Roger
