I fished it 5 days in a row during the fall a couple of years ago. I caught more fish around the bridge between the upper and lower part of the lake than anywhere. I threw a watermelon/candy Zoom U-Tail worm with a 1/8 bullet sinker and a 1/4 single willow white spinnerbait. One day I sat in spot in front of the bridge and caught 21 fish without ever moving the boat.
If you head north from the bridge there is a small pocket on the left about half-way between the bridge and statepark. It has a very large tree in the back that has fallen over into the lake. There is a little ditch that runs right under it. That spot also held a ton of fish. My buddy lost one there that would have went 6lbsand we caught about 25 off that one spot that day.
Also down further south in the mouth of Ditch Bayou in front of the campground and boat dealership there is a lot of scattered brush along the bank. Start fishing that south bank right off the make lake and fish it all the way down to the bridge. You will probably see some brush sticking up around those docks but there is more out deeper.
Chicot seems to me to be a strange lake. When you find one fish you may catch 20 in the same spot. Two buddies and I stayed there for about five days in October. At first we thought we wouldn't catch a fish but once we got them figured out we had a blast. Good luck.
Greenhornet, I usually fish it about 10 times a year for the last 20 years. I too have a club tournament there next month on the 19th. Depending on when yours is, we may can help each other out. I hate to tell you to try a certain spot if I'm going to be there on the same day.![]()
I'll be there on the 5th. email me and hopefully I'll have some good news for you. Thanks for the reply.
