I'm guessing its a lot of rock jetty fishing? My only experience fishing a river like this is the Red River in Louisana. Are there many backwater areas or is it mostly main river fishing?
In the past, I've fished the Arkansas River in Little Rock, out of Tar Camp near Redfield and also the Pine Bluff area. Didn't someone win the BassMasters Classic out of PB many years ago?
Both areas provided great fishing the few times I went. Some nice largemouth but that was back in the 80's.
BRUSHPILES IN THE HARBOR in P.B.. I havent fished it at all but fish all the other pools enough to know this is the predominate summertime pattern-
What tournament does this surround?
Lots of backwater areas out of Pendleton Bridge area!!![]()

Its a new college tournament called Smash Mouth, its put on my JM associates and aired on the ESPN network. I will be representing Kansas State Univ. The tournament is in conjunction with the Elite Series going out of Little Rock. They fish thursday-Sunday and we fish Sunday-Tuesday. If you go to collegebass.com theres a lot more info about it.
Rick Clunn was the guy who blew away the field and won the Classic at Pine Bluff.
Thanks for the input everyone![]()
My suggestion is to run down one pool to Tru Lock and hit the jetties there. Dumas is a little run for someone not familiar with things-
On the maps I'm looking at (http://www.swt.usace.army.mil/...s.cfm) I can't find a 'tru lock' I'm sure eventually I will find it on there. Thanks for the tip. Does the river have many hazards for boating or is it pretty safe?
If you stay betweenthe bouys you should be fine. The best fishing this time of year is if there is water running stay on main river. Lots of great Kentucky bass in the river from there down to Dumas. Most tourneys are won by locking thru and going to the Dumas pool for the largemouth bite. Lots of Frog fishing in Merrisac and Moore bayou along with post lake. Primary bite in the other pools is around the jettys. sure need flow though. If I can be of more assistance let me know. I live on the river at Dardanelle and have fished it from stemto stern.![]()
I fished the Dumas/Pendleton pool three days last week. Biggest problem with the fishing right now is current flow. They aren't letting much water through the lower dam/generator so with very little current this can make the fish harder to locate.![]()
Great advice guys, thanks again.
Anyone know of a good topo map of this part of the Arkansas River? If not how about just a map?
you're probably not going to find any topo's of the river since it changes every time the water comes up. I would think those navigation charts that you linked to would be about as good as you're going to get.![]()
Yea, thats a good point. Thanks.
