With about 100 people in attendance, the North East division of Fishers of Men held our second meeting at Cedar Bluff First Baptist Church. Gerald Green and his staff cooked up some good old fashioned hamburgers and hot dogs for our supper. Our speaker was professional bass fisherman, Randy Howell. Randy gave his testimony about how the Lord had saved him from his pride to help him to become the best Christian that he could be. He told how the Lord had given him a second chance to take time for his fellow-man, even when it seemed that it wasnÂt that important. We had six people rededicate their lives to the Lord through this word. We praise the Lord for working through the testimony of his children to reach others.
The weather for our Weiss Lake tournament couldnÂt have been better. In the morning the temperature was in a cool mid 40Âs and it gradually warmed up as the day progressed to be a pleasant mid 60 during weigh in.
Thirty of the 39 boats in the tournament caught fish and 13 of the boats caught the five fish limit.
First place went to Darrell Smith with a gross weight of 15.64 pounds. Darrell fished by himself because his partner, Mark Martin, had a prior Easter engagement. Darrell was also the first place winner of our bonus bucks. Second place went to Tim Vanpolen and Paul Bridengaugh with 14.54 pounds. This team took home the second place bonus bucks and also won big fish with a 6.48 pound whopper. Third place went to Terry Cochran and Brent Barnes with 12.66 pounds. This team, as with the first two teams, was enrolled in the bonus bucks. Cochran and Barnes also took home the second biggest fish of the tournament with 5.03 pounds.
This tournament paid out seven spots, including the fourth place spot that went to Stephen Hiott and Christopher Hiott, an adult-junior team. We are so proud of our fishermen for doing such a fine job during this tournament.
All fish were returned to the river alive. We are looking forward to fishing next month with this great group of fishermen.
