    Third Rod

I'm looking to add a third baitcasting set up to the arsenal. I currently have a 6'10" MH very fast action and a 7' MED Fast action.

What would you add as a third? I fish all lures and presentations. I do not do much flipping........mostly plastics, cranks and topwaters.

    Re: Third Rod (Northeast Bassin)

That 6'10" is a good spinnerbait/jig rod, and the 7' M is a good senko/texas rigged plastics rod. I would throw a nice 7' MH Moderate or Moderate Fast action rod in the mix to use for topwater/jerkbaits/cranks. Having a softer tip rod will definitely help you land more fish on treble hook lures.

    Re: Third Rod (Northeast Bassin)

    I would add a 6'9 to 7'. something like a Powell Endurance 694C
    694 C 6'9" Fast 1/4oz. - 1oz Hvy #4 Power

This is a great squarebill, trap and 1/2oz buzzbait rod. Would also be ok for jigs and worms. I'm finding it nice also for lures like paddle tails swimbaits like skinny dippers

The other 2 rods you have are nice all around rods. So I would add a heavy action all around rod.

If you not into heavy action rods, then I would go with a 6'9 to 7' crankbait rod.
Why do people fish, some say people fish to get fish, this is obviously false

OK......trying to do it with $100. Any suggestions on options? A moderate/mod-fast action rod is tough to find for $100

    Re: Third Rod (OhioChamp183)

I probably should set up vote options but I'd rather hear what people have to say. Here are the options I found around the $100 mark, all 7' MH Moderate

    BPS Carbon Lite
    St Croix Premier Crankbait
    Falcon Bucoo
    St Croix Mojo Bass
    Powell 704 CB
    Denali Jade Series

Out of the ones you listed I would go with the powell followed closely by the falcon bucoo

You left out anything in the Shimano line....I'd look for the best you can afford in the Shimano line and buy it....The over the counter lifetime warranty is hard to beat and I've found that pound for price a Shimano is hard to beat
They aint got hands, set the hook

Re: Third Rod (Fishin is life)

I was going to recomend one of those diawa t rods from Tacklewarehouse because they are AWESOME rods for the price. But shimano does have that warranty.... Its a no brainer for thier warrantys stay away from the convergence tho... its way too heavy go for a used crucial from the boards ive seen several of them..

Re: Falcon Bucoo vs St Croix Premier vs Shimano Compre

Ok...so I've narrowed the field to three. Since the Compre is new for 2012 there aren't any reviews for feedback. My only concern was that it's a med/fast action rather than a moderate and that it won't have that "give" for a good crankbait rod. Hopefully the local BPS may have all three and I can test them out but I'd be curious to hear any additional feedback.

Thanks to the previous poster for the heads-up on Shimano as I probably would have overlooked it.

    6'10" H - Jigs/Texas Rig 12-15# 100% fluoro
7' M Spinning - Shakey head, swimming grubs, finesse 8# yozuri hybrid
    7'4" M - medium-deep cranks 10# 100% fluro

Re: Falcon Bucoo vs St Croix Premier vs Shimano Compre (mowigglewart)

Well.....BPS didn't have any of the rods in the store. Because the Shimano didn't have a true moderate action only med/fast, the Bucoo everyone said to go up on power (if you want MH go with H) and in H power they also don't have a MOD action, the St Croix was the only MH/MOD so that's what I went with.

BuCoo has a 6'10" Heavy Mod Action rod.......I have it and got it at BPS. I had to special order it and go pick it up but they have it.

So you're a good person to ask.....does it fish like a H or a MH? I had to special order the St Croix so I can still get the Falcon.

I would say its almost inbetween a MH and H......so a MHH is that even makes sense. Its not a broom stick but its not as soft as a MH either. I like it and have no complaints and I like having my bottom contact rods a little stiffer than maybe other guys. Feel like I can feel more/better with a stiffer rod. Its so light and sensitive and I really just love it. For $100 you cant go wrong. I have it paired with my curado E7 and its my favorite rig of all my combos. Good luck.
