    Problem with a revo stx

One of my stx's is slipping. It happens when I get slack in the line and set the hook. It's acts as if the thumb bar has been pushed then it will catch and stop it but not before it makes a nasty backlash. Sometimes it does it when I try to use the line snapping technique to un-hang a lure. Any ideas on what might cause this?

Need a new gearset. You've worn out where your spool pin fits into your pinion gear. Really common reel issue from folks who set a lot of hooks (it just wears over time) or engage the reel before the lure hits the water.

Clean your instant antireverse bearing. It is dirty or has been greased. The bearings are not catching in the carrier.

It's in the side plate that has the handle in it.

I wouldn't condemn the reel just yet. Have it professionally cleaned and lubed. Revos are tanks, but they were notorious for coming from the factory over lubed.

I can just about guarantee you it will work better than when you got it after a thorough clean and lube.

Anti reverse is the one in the frame..on gear shaft. Have to remove handle and stuff. It will be in the side cover.

Another possibility is the spring that controls the kick lever is stretched out. That will cause the gear to not engage. Very common and a 1$ part. Its a bitch to get back in though. I would send it off to get looked at if you are not into tearing reels down.

Re: Problem with a revo stx (bilgerat)

Anybody know which item number it is on the schematics. I can tear a reel apart and get it back together. Just don't know exactly which part it is. Thanks everybody for your help

On my STX (2009 model) the A/R bearing is pressed into the handle side side plate, it does not come out. It will be a cage with a row of needle bearings.

Clean it with diluted Simple Green or dawn dish soap - don't use any kind of brake cleaner, it will destroy plastic in seconds. Thouroughly clean and dry it, then all it gets for lube is a very thin coat of reel oil - never grease. Apply the oil with a Q tip
