When cleaning should the fiber drag washer be left alone or is simple green or contact cleaner ok if it gets on it?

Depends on the reel. Some say to light grease. Some shimano have dartanium and should be dry. I change all the drags in my reels to Carbontex Smoothies. All of the guys that upgrade their reels buy these. You can get them here if you want. They are definitely worth the money.

I clean all my drag washers with Simple Green and water. Let them dry completely before applying a light coating of drag grease, then reinstall.

Shimano cloth washers can be soaked in alcohol overnight, then fluffed with a straight edge and hung to dry. Carbon wiped on flat surface cloth lightly dampened with alcohol then dry.
