Has anyone used this rod? I want to know if it's good for Big cranks? (DT 14-16)

That was my other choice, the 7-8 big cranker.

I just bought the CBR906 about 3 weeks ago. Finally wanted to get a dedicated big crank stick. I had a Rick Clunn Wright McGill for a few days before I got the Loomis thinking I didn't need to spend good money on just a cranking stick since sensitivity was going to be way down anyway. Wrong! The Clunn stick weighs a TON, is as thick as a pool cue and has no bottom feel.

Anyway, been fishing the 906 a lot and think it's a good compromise. Not as sensitive as the MBR843 I was dragging cranks around with, but still way better than the Clunn stick. And the extra limberness in the shaft seems to work better at hooking up fish and pulling through rocks and junk w/o snagging as much. I'm very happy with the rod so far.

I'm sure the Croix is a good stick too, just no experience with it.

Yes the 906 will work for those baits. It was originally designed for lipless baits in grass but also serves as a decent deep crank stick as well. Some others would be the St. Croix Magnum Cranker mentioned above, which handles very deep baits like the LC D-20 or Luhr Jensen Hotlips...The Cumara Reaction 7'11" MH-Fast is what I'm currently using (and I have about 20 Loomis rods)..I have not used the Dobyns 805 CBRM, but hear it works well also.

    Re: G Loomis CBR906 (flyingwillie)

I had the CBR 906 a couple years back It works ok for big cranks but some baits like the 3/4 hotlips,DD22,and baits similar to this will max it out I am not trying to steer you away, I use a powell 805cb or 806cb for big deep cranks just a personal favorite the guy who bought my two 906's from me throws shad raps and wiggle warts with them
