Finally had a chance to build some jigs today

The top one is a new head design I started using and the others are a football head and a brush jig I started pouring. All are black/blue with a blue illusion head. The last brush jig picture is a flat black head with a flat black skirt. All skirts are hand tied with copper wire and have Mustad heavy jig hooks. :thumb:

How do you get the paint on the jig heads to look like that?

Its a 2 part paint. You basically do a basecoat then bake the reheat and add second color and bake.

Mark how are you heating the heads? I use a torch and cant ever get that 2 part stuff to come out right. Im assuming you're also using a fluid bed as well? Thanks

Re: Finally had a chance to build some jigs today (BigCheese)

I use a lot of the 2 part paint some from fishingskirts.com the other from columbia coatings the secret to great colors is a toaster oven I have 4 LOL I paid the most for a infrared induction oven the other day at a yard sale $10 yes ten bucks they all came second hand and I have a GE model that had a chicken/turkey rotisserie in it I made me a nice rack to heat and rehang my heads in it the other day out of an old old refridgerator shelf the stainless ones I bent it so it would have a flat top to put a small stainless pan on to heat my heads ond I cut out two front bars so my heads could swing freely after I dip them after my painting process is over I transfer them to my other oven on a similar wire rack and bake them at a lower temp 275 degrees for 20 minutes after that you could drag it behind a car for days and the paint wont chip off

I use a fluid bed for painting. I just use a heat gun to get them hot, I then dip in the powder then bake, I use the heat gun again to heat for second coat but you have to find the the right setting/time to heat it up the second time. Basically hot enough to get the paint on but not so hot it affects the base coat. Also you have to be easy on the second coat and not make it too thick.

use a heat gun with a fluid bed, paint will come put awesome like Mark's. Mark, is thare an advantage to curing after the first color and then adding the second? Have you done both before curing and it failed?
    Question everything!

I was not as happy with the results when I waited to cure both coats at once and for me it was harder to keep the excess paint off from a second dip. You guys that pointed me towards a fluid bed I cannot thank enough. Makes painting so much easier.
