    Devcon 2-Ton problems...

I dont know whats going on! One lure will turn out perfect and the next will have ripples all over it.

    Any suggestions?

i assume you are rotating them?

also i would make sure the are evenly coated brush from the front to the back removing excess and you shouldnt have a problem unless they have came in contact with your skin

    I just rotate by hand.

I didnt wipe it down before the clear, that could be the culprit. Plus we had a rain storm roll through so the humidity was high and the package looked old, so Im thinking the card were stacked against me.

The fact that you don't have any 'fish eyes' or dry spots, indicates that the omission of the 'wipe down' is not the issue. I live in a humid climate and don't have any issues. I think that you put too much on. As the surface skinned over, the sub-surface epoxy had room to move, exasperated by the time between flips.

A 5rpm drying wheel is flipping your bait every six seconds, so the sub surface epoxy just does not have time to run and cause the ripples. Make the effort and build a wheel, you will not regret it, I promise.

I would invest in a cheap rotisserie setup. You can get it done for less than $30. I heard and read so many horror stories about how hard D2T was to work with I was scared it was gonna suck. I just buy cheap craft brushes where I get 25 for about $2.00 and I use the little plastic bathroom cups to mix it in. Get you 2 lids from same size pill bottles and fill each one with either the resin or the hardener. Combine and stir thoroughly but slow. Mix up just a bit at a time. I can usually get 3 crankbaits done per batch with little waste. I try to use a light coat and once I am done I mix another batch and use a clean brush for each batch. I have had no issues at all.

Hey Mark. Can you post a pic of your rotisserie for me?

I have seen a few different setups but my space is really limited for about 6 more months and im not sure if ill have the room.

And thanks for the reply about the folk art paint. It got me curious so I thinned it a little more and now its shooting pretty darn good.

I built mine from a rotisserie from Lowes. I added 48 alligator clips on wheens and the spikes as shown. I doubt I will paint that many cranks at once but it helps me on jigs. i just turn it on and as a clear each bai I just use a clip to hold it. I do not to turn it off to add baits. I let it turn about 90 minutes then usually let them cure on it overnight. I made mine portable so i can do it inside or outside. Built a frame from lumber.

Thanks for the pic. It looks easier to build that I thought.

Don't know is this has been said or not but, try to get it on the bait as fast as you can but, still a good even coat. If it starts to set up on you a little just hit it will the hair dryer for a few seconds

Thanks for the link. That one would work with my limited space.

Why dont you just switch to Dick Nite's and forget about all of that rottiserie crap. Much easier to dip and hang and they come out perfect. All you have to do is clear the hangers. Saves time and money in the long run.

Well I just put on another coat and it looks a lot better but not perfect. I think the culprit is the House of Colors enamel I put on it to flash that green tint. I used it on another lure and got the same ripples.
