need help with jig skirt (mop jig)

Have a friend wanting some jigs tied similar to the mop jig. I've only seen a picture of them and going by that looks like they have a silicone tab and a skirt that is a little longer. Is the longer skirt round rubber??? Any hints greatly appreciated

The mop jigs that I purchased from BPS have a silicone skirt material and a long round rubber material mixture. the rubber strands are longer.

Tie your round rubber on first cinching it down pretty tight: I have a wrapping technique I use that is far too detailed to try and describe here but the idea is to get the flare out of the rubber so you get that monstrous profile.

Have been using similar combos on FB jigs here for 10 yrs or so. Terry is spot on, have to get enough torque on the wire/thread to make that round rubber pop out. Harder to manage than you would expect, it is tough stuff.

Only difference I would add is tying in the silicone/flashabou first so it lays on top the rubber when you trim the jig and turn it hook eye up. Makes the accent color stand out, but this may or may not be the same effect as the mop jig skirt.

Guarantee, even with your time, it will end up cheaper than buying them. Can't make myself drop $5 on a jig I will drag through 35' deep rocks on 10# line. Jig prices are way out of hand.

You will need the heavy round rubber material for the mop effect, the regular cut doesnt have the body you are looking for.
I have tied alot of these jigs
