How do you know what lenght to put the reel seat at from the end of the blank when using split grips?
No standard distance. Put it where ever it's comfortable for you.
So wherever it feels balanced?
I place it according to two factors, what technique the rod will be used for and the length of the rod. For topwaters, jerkbaits, etc. I like a shorter handle down to 8". For frogs, crankbaits I like a longer handle up to 11". Sometimes that longer handle will get in your way with pitching.
