this is by far the closest I've ever gotten the shades of a shad and now I'm scared to do anything else to it for fear of messing it up....I guess there's always the pictures to hold onto. Anyone volunteer to put a dot on the sides and some eyes for me?

+1 --- I can't seem to ever get a really natural shad look. Looks like you've got it nailed though!

looks great. I will put some eyes, dot, gills, etc.
I think you can handle that though
wrap a strip of paper around the lure. mark the place where you want the spot or eyes. then fold the paper over evenly and punch it out with a paper punch. this will give you a reference to match them up perfectly.
