I use a SS tip on my rods, there isnt any ceramic inserts, havent broke or messed one up yet.

Otherwise - go with something like a recoil tip that has no ring like P. suggested.

was thinking about that...does it cost any distance on long casts ?
Ive got another rod that has all SS except for the tip..( american rodsmiths)

I havent noticed any lost casting distance our any other "side effects"
I also have not had one fail either!
You can buy a 5 pack of them for under $5 too
