I am looking to upgrade some of my rods. Specifically my pitching and jigging rods. Not sure if should have one built or buy a manufactured one. Can I get the same quality rod built at the same price or better? How do you select a blank? Any help would be appreciated.

Well there are plenty of custom builders, some of whom are sponsers of BBC who can build you a custom rod for the specific style of fishing you need it for. And since they have access to more than just one brand of blank, chances are it will allow them to build exactly what you are after. Prices will vary and you would just have to check with the builder regarding price.

Weigh your options, but don't make that decision until you have talked to a couple builders and looked at a few different "rack" rods. Price, value, and features are going to influence the decision that only you can make.
Can I get the same quality rod built at the same price or better?
Loosely I would say yes but a lot depends on the options you want. I try to stay away from generalizations like that - think of this - what you come up with a builder may not even exist anywhere else - so how do you compare fairly? Construction quality should not need to be mentioned, but unfortunately not all custom rods are the same. Ask for pictures or <u>non pro staff </u>referrals.
How do you select a blank?
Personally, we'd discuss and go through how you fish, personal preferences, what you expect out of the rod, etc. From there I could help narrow down the thousands of rod choices for you. Regardless, be sure your rod builder listens to your needs.
Remember - with any "factory" type rod, they are married to one particular line of blanks that they have already bought - including Kistler. A "custom" builder can go outside of the box to meet your needs if warranted.
