    Trouble with reel seats?

I have attached a link to see what I am talking about:

    http://www.mudhole.com/Shop-Ou...-Seat

This particular reel seat has been giving me trouble when I ream it out to fit the blank the back trigger part sits too high for some reels to go in. Am I the only one that has trouble with this?

Let me guess. It is probably a Quantum reel . I've had problems with those but not Shimanos or ABU's.

Your not the only one. From my experiance those seats need to be as close to the right size as possible so you dont have to ream it out very much or it will sit to high.

i've had it with the abu pro-max reels (not revos however).

being a reel i spent 35$ i took a dremel to the reel foot and smoothed it down to fit. You can use a dremel and make the pocket in the seat deeper and taller.

fuji came out with a split seat like these at icast. Hopefully they will be widely available soon. I like the minima design, but they are nowhere near the quality of the other fuji seats.

I've had a lot of trouble with Ardents and the minimas. I've also had trouble with the minima spinning seats not lining up level with the threads. Enough that I really don't use any of them at all.

Justin - I've seen pics of the new Fuijs - not sure what I think yet. It's going to cost about $12 per seat retail with a minimum 8 parts. There is a thread barrel, trigger, hood nut, 2 arbors and 3 winding checks. You use checks on both ends of threads and 1 end of trigger. Threads and trigger piece are both arbored. Just seems complicated and expensive at this point. Have to use a few to really get a feel.

split ECS is a great product. Reams great too.

If you want to buy one, I've got some already done I can sell. Used to sell them all the time on the big auction site, but the fees over there have gotten stupid.

thats a bummer. sounds really complicated for something so simple. with a few tweak to the design, the minima could be a really nice seat. Namely - reshape the pocket and test it with a bunch more reel feet and take the threaded barrel and add a flat, un-threaded edge for the foot of the reel.

They could also cut out some of the material in the back of the seat to lighten it up.

Split ECS might still be the way to go

Re: Trouble with reel seats? (thedude)

you nailed it on the minima... and shorten the thread barrel too.

You ever noticed a minima seat is the same weigh as the same diameter full ECS?

    Size 13 minima - 23g, size 13 ECS - 25 grams

That includes hood nuts, but no arbors and nothing trimmed on either seat.
