    Opinions on Lead melting pots

    Hey guys,

I have been looking into a Lead melting pot for jig making and can't seem to make up my mind if I should just spend the money on a higher $$ one or if a lower $$ one would get the job done with ease.

If you could give your opinion on the melting pot you have used or ones prior that would be great!

I'm just looking for something that will best suit me.

    Thanks!

I've just got the Hot Pot II and love it. I don't pour a whole lot of lead, so it suits me just fine. If you are looking at doing a higher production, the bottom pour models are hard to beat

In my opinion, if your only pouring for yourself the cheep one works fine, but if your mass producing, you'll need the big one.

I have a Lee 10# bottom pour. Used it going on 9 years. Works good for what I do. Crappie and bass jigs. Poured 100 shakey heads today. Costs around $60. Just got a SB mold. Can't do a bottom pour because of the wire, but toss in enough lead, and I can use a small ladle.

Thanks for the info! I was looking at that one before wondering how good it would be for different molds. Thanks!

The cheaper bottom pour will be fine for you and in a few years if a part or two gets gummed up or the pin starts eroding you can order any individual part from the manufacturer really cheap.
