A Gun, like any other source of power, is a force for either good or evil, being neither in itself, but dependent upon those who possess it.
Loose or shorting wire in your control box . Could also be a loose ground in the control box, but not likely.
but the only time it works is when you pull the warm up lever up. when you are running down the lake it does'nt work at all. could it be something loose back at the motor or something gone out to make it not work.![]()

I would check my battery connections and make sure if I had wing nuts I would replace them with stainless steel hex nuts and lock washers or SS nylon insert nuts. Get out a meter and check your voltage at the battery before starting and after starting.
i installed a new battery changed out the wing nuts and before cranking i have 12.5 v after starting it goes down to 11.3v also noticed the volt meter on boat was not showing it was charging.. When i went to the lake while running it still was not showing it was charging until i went to WOT. i understand when idling around it may not show charge as much but it should be when im going down the lake without running at WOT...

I would think about replacing the voltage regulator/rectifier.
Hi, I have a '87 Evinrude 120 that does the same thing. Originally thought it was a bad tach so I replaced it, same problem. Can't imagine why it would work with the warm up lever and then only to 2000 RPM. If you figure this out, I'd sure appreciate knowing. Thanks in advance.
Put a new regulator in and problem solved. Thanks for the idea.
