Splt Ring Issue

When adding split rings to spoon blanks, the rings get flexed out a bit. I'm putting a size 5 split ring from Stamina on 4 3/4" spoon blanks. Does this mean the split rings are of lower quality or do I need to go to a bigger size? I'd do have to spread them pretty good to get them on the spoon.

I have some trouble with this on bladebaits. I try to open the rings as little as possible with the split ring pliers, but will still have a few that get deformed. Using a pliers to turn the bent portion back into the hole usually gets them back into alignment when they spring back from being "tuned."
