Like anything else.. $$ spent is determined on the quality of supplies. Aluminum molds are expensive and last. RTV molds are fairly reasonable but does not put out as nice a finish as Aluminum. Then there is the plasticsol, flakes, special salt, scents, heat source to melt plastisol..ETC ETC ETC.
It is fun but dangerous, too. You need a well ventilated place to pour. Toxic fumes!!
Lurecraft has a reasonable kit for starters. They also have a DVD showing what is needed to pour and HOW.
    Check this out: http://www.lurecraft.com/catal...:2155

Good luck.. If you have any questions, I/M me and I'll help you if I can.

Say, I buy a 3 cavity mold and plastic and cook the plastic. Say 1 cup. How can you keep the plastic in the cup from setting up B4 the plastic in the mold does?

Like anything else you can go overboard very easy... ( see pic below). Just make sure you have a place that is well ventilated and a good sturdy table top to pour on....

Try dels kit (delmart.com) all you will need is a microwave oven and a pouring pan, also an imagination and lots of beer cause you spend a lot of time in front of those molds. It is very addicting and fun. You can get started pretty cheap and find used molds on ebay and tackleunderground.com.
