    Dick Nite's clear coat discount

For those unfamiliar with http://www.tackleunderground.com its a forum dedicated to tackle makers. Anyway, the link below is to a page that allows TU members to recieve a hefty discount on some of the paints and clear coat that are offered by Dick Nite's. You do not have to actually be a TU member, just follow the directions from the link. The clear coat is what I use on my cranks. Its a one part coat that cures with air moisture. I really like it because it is not brittle like epoxy and has a little give so it wont shatter. The discount is about 50% off.

egandy, how much of a 2oz bottle do you get to use? I only get about 1/3 of a bottle and by then it has started to cure in the bottle. I really like the finish but not the amount wasted.

You have to ve very careful with this stuff because its cure by air moisture. So you NEVER use the container it comes in for dipping your brush. Always pour a small amout into another container, clean the top, and seal it up immediately. But to answer your question, I use pints and use probably 7/8 of the pint before the last little bit cured in the can.

Sounds kind of like Permagloss finish that we use for rods. The stuff cures the same way. What some guys do is get a small 8oz. can of varnish and clean it out real good with mineral spirits, let it dry good. Then take a small sheet metal screw and screw it into the can on the side at the bottom. Then they fill it up with two 4oz. bottles of permagloss, put the lid on real tight, turn the can over to let the permagloss seal the lid in place and turn it back to normal.

So now you would have a can with a screw sticking out of the side at the bottom. The guy that I talked to said the first few times you use it a little will leak out around the screw and form a shoulder there, which is fine because it helps keep it sealed up. He said you just remove the screw and get out what you need, then reinstall the screw. The system keeps air out of it and let's you use all of the product.

Just something you guys might want to try.
