Removing a blank from reel seat

Hi folks. Is there anyway to remove the blank from the reel seat on a production rod? I have some Allstars and Quantum rods I would like to shorten, but would like to keep the tip action by shortening from the bottom up (if that makes sense). I have heard some of the glues are heat sensitive, and that if you get them hot enough you can slide the blank out. It sounds dangerous!
Anyone know? I can't think of anything more depressing than melting an old friend!

    Thanks!

carve off all the cork use a heat gun to remove the reel seat most of the commonly used glues are heat sensitive but there is no way to be sure on someone else's product. cut the butt of the rod to the length you want and rebuild the handle..

pretty simple really... as long as the reel seat comes off...

You can either use heat to remove the reel seat or you can very carefully cut the seat off with a dremel tool. If you use a heat gun apply the heat to the reel seat not the blank as the blank will fail. You will need to remove the guides to replace with a new seat. Also keep in mind, if you shorten the rod from the butt end you will change the rod action to a more moderate action. Hope this helps.

Thanks, RIchard. You know, I wasn't thinking about the guides! I don't believe these rods are worth that much work. BTW, I couldn't get to your web site. Do you still make rods?

its a great way to learn how to work on rods and do your own repair. Its rather simple to take the guides off and you can use a make shift rod wrapper with little to no money...its worth a try to do it yourself. i have done it many times
