Alconites will work, if you are building a high dollar light weight rod llike a drop shot rod, sometimes it is nice to have the titanium guides to save weight and really keep the action of the rod ex-fast. Other than that all things equal, it's a difference you would probably never notice holding and using the rod.

Most of my rods are built with alconites. For the money you can't beat them. Have built a few with the Recoil guides, but man are they pricey!

I have been using American Tackle guides. On my bass sticks the only ones i use are tich frames w/ Ziconia rings, strong ,lite and never had a ring come loose or fall out, can't say that about fugi, try them

Well like the others have said the Alconites are pretty much the best bang for your buck. I have however built my last few rods with Batson guides with the RRD frame. This frame has the guide ring recessed into the frame which helps prevent inserts from popping out. I havent used these long enough to know how long they will hold up, but so far they seem good.
