I need some rod builder help( long but maybe I have something)

I live in Ohio and they fish a lot of lily pads here. I hate flipping, because when you flip the pocket if the line hangs on the pads the bait won't sink , and twitching the line moves everything around spooking the fish. Other than using a heavier bait there are not many options.
When I was a young kid crappie fishing with my granddad, we crappie fished from the bank and would walk along the bank or around a dock with the dolfly hanging straight down from the end of the rod and jig around the structure, we never cast, just jigged all the way up the bank and we slayed them. Bass and crappie alike.

Now what I would like is a baitcast rod about 15 feet long, 2 pc, m to mh action, with guides that I could use power pro in. I would employ the same technique from the boat. With a long rod I could just let ou about 6 ft of line and drop the bait right in the pocket with out hitting any of the pads around it and could jig it up and down with out disturbing the pads around.
Let me know what you think about the rod and cost and durability and weigh in on the technique too.
    Thanks in advance.

The technique is called "noodling" or I have heard it called "doodling" as well. I don't know about setting up a bait casting rod to do it but it is along the same principle as flipping; you just don't have to hassle with learning to flip well.

You can do this flipping it just takes a lot of practice.

sounds interesting. one thing to think about is how heavey the rod would be, and how it would be ot hold all day.

Alos, most tournaments limit rods to only being 8'

honestly, you should practice fishing lilly pads a bit more. Believe it or not, i actually catch bass by PUNCHING thru large lilly pads with a 1 oz tungten weight. Bass dont get spooked as easily as you might think!

    Re: (jimmy7)

I checked FLW they have no rule except no trolling.

BASS has always been a little more rule oriented.

Edited. I stand corrected they must have done away with the 8' rule in FLW

It can be done. It would need to be built on a steelhead rod (2 piece) and the max length I found is 12-13 feet long. The big issue with this rod would be the weight, finished weight would be around 1/2-3/4 lb. +. Let me know if you need any help.
