Go with the Longest and Lightest Rod you can afford with a Moderate Fast "Swimbait" Taper that uses most of the rods energy to wield the bait rather than just the tip. 7'11" or 8' Swimbait Rod is best. I would use a high speed reel also. You can always slow things down, but you are going to wear out your body enough as it is wielding that thing all day without having to speed up your reeling also with a low speed reel. Ideally you want a reel with a wide or deep spool with a large line capacity.

Lots of brands guys can chime in on I'm sure. I can't say myself, my A-Rig rod is not branded and custom made.

The setup that I like to use is the Abu Garcia Veritas schooling rig rod with the Abu Garcia Orra Winch reel. This setup for me handles any a-rig that I want to use and with the wider spool on the Orra reel I'm not worried about running out of line on a long cast.
