    Line Usage??????

Ok fella's I want to bring to clarity to this topic. I am a flurocarbon guy. An I read where fluro it was said not to use flurocarbon to fish topwater with because it will sink and effect the action of the lure.
I would like to know y'all opinion on this. An what is your line selection of choice to fish topwater with?

I like using the Suffix performance stretch braid, or Suffix Siege Mono.

A couple years ago Chad Griffin won a tournament on Oneida by throwing a zell pop on 15 lb. flouro. He said that he didn't have any mono on that was big enough to handle those big smallies. I would not recomend it though. I use mono or braid when fishing topwater.

I use 14lb - 17lb mono, or 30lb braid with a mono leader. Both methods cast well, work the bait effectively, and land fish.

Even IF fluoro worked as well, the price of spooling up another reel with it wouldn't be worth it. That's easily another $100 bucks in line at the end of the season.

Topwater plugs - Berkley Big Game 15lb mono.
    Topwater frogs/toads/buzzbaits - 65lb braid.

    Re: (wildkat7)

I fish a LOT of topwater...
For heavier topwaters like buzz baits I use Vicious 20# fluoro cause I am reeling it 99% of the cast
For the rest I use that are "slow cast" 14 or 17# Berkley Orange Blaze mono

Thanks for the info gents! It looks like everybody uses mono for topwater. An braid for frogs.

I use 30 lb Stren Sonic braid for walking baits, 17 lb mono for buzzbaits, and 10-12 lb mono for poppers/prop baits/smaller topwater. Big braid obviously for frogs.
