    Re: Carolina Rig Setups (Bgscott)

I use either flouro or mono 17 pound and up main line, mono leader usually 12 or 14 pound. The flouro has better sensitivity but knot strength can be an issue. also with a 3/4 to 1 oz. weight, i don't have a problem feeling the bottom or strikes. I always use the mono as a leader because it doesn't sink like flouro, I think the mono gives the bait better action and a slower fall. JMO

17lb Fluoro main and 10lb mono. The mono floats and helps the bait stay off the bottom.

I think it depends on a few factors, like type of structure you're fisihng, depth and clarity of the water, weight of the rig weights, etc.

I fish c-rigs a lot in clear reservoirs like Table Rock and Beaver Lake. No grass, weeds, pads at all. Just clear water with rock and barren trees. I fish with 12#FC main line and 6 or 8 lb leaders. I swap back and forth between mono and FC for the leader, but it really does not seem to make much difference in success. The rocks tend to be hard on mono, so I think I get more break offs when using it.

Don't waste ( I really mean waste) your money on floro.. use this line 20lb and your love urself even the more.. you could use braid 832 but then you'd be using a 15lb test leader, because you definitely wouldn't go below that when usning braid.

Also to be considered is depth. I use a flipn stick with 50 briad and 20 mono leader with 1 1/2 tungsten in depths of 20 plus feet with vegetation. If your shallower than that.. you don't need to beef up that much.. like every thing else your equipment should be dictated by the type of cover your fishing.. Just my advance.....
