    Big Bass on Beds??????

What is your best setup for catching a bass on a bed when sight fishing. style, color, size, presentation, everything. The reason I ask is I watched the FLW Tournament yesteday and they were flat out wearing the fish out and I have never had any luck getting a bass to bite while on there bed they always seem to run out. Thanks

I like a 4" white Texas rigged tube bait with a 1/2 bullet weight and a EWG 4/0 hook.If after awhile I cant get him to bite I will toss in a little tex rig 3" Green Pumpkin craw in there. If the bass runs out he will usually circle around and come back.A lot of times they will swim up to the boat and take a look at you but if they dont return to the nest right away dont waste your time.If a bass noses down on the bait then I feel I can catch it.Another think to try is if the fish swims out of the nest go ahead and pitch your bait in there and wait for him to return then give the bait a little shake and see how he reacts

Most of the time if the fish leaves the nest by comes back, it's catchable. Not every time, just most of the time. You might be to close to the bed. Leave for about 15 minutes, come back and stay further away. Change colors. They hate a craw in their nest. Inch your bait around all sides of the nest if possible. There will be a spot that really makes him mad.

Here are some tips I use to catch big bass on the beds.In order to cover a lot of water looking for big bass,I dont want to waste my time on 2 or 3 lbers I am looking for fish over 5 lbs.I have my buddy in the boat start the big motor and put it in gear,I stand up on the front deck and use the trolling motor to steer the boat, this way I can go down a bank and cover a lot of water fast.If I see a big fish I have him put the motor in neutral and check it out.A good pair of polarized sunglasses is important.Another thing I do is check out spawning areas closest to big marinas. Some of the biggest bass in the lake spend there whole life under the marina docks and the only time they need to come out is for the spawn.

A 4oz pyramid sinker with a swivel eye. Run your main line thru the eye of the sinker and tie on a bluegill color floating crankbait. Pitch the sinker and crankbait into the bed and let the crank bait float up a foot or so. Pull on the line to make the bait "swim" down into the bed relax and it will float up.

Zoom Super Hog...Pearl in color. I can see it and the fish can too. If you cast up to the bed and fish darts off and doesn't come back, find another fish...lol.

Alot of bed fishing is finding fish that are catchable. On TV they don't have time the show the pros finding beds that didn't have catchable fish and moving on. On some small lakes I have seen only 1 out of 5 fish are catchable in some cases.

Problem with this is trebles, which scream "foul hooked"...in which, if you are sight fishing in a tourney that fish will be illegal.

Well....if a bass even "mouths" the bait, like they do when on the bed , they are as good as caught in the mouth. No way they can mouth it without getting the trebles.....might even take one of the trebles off if you are worried bout foul hooking them.
