I was wondering what your preferred techniques are for water temps 48-50 degrees with the temp 1) rising 2)falling.
Max depth 10'. Mostly verticle wood cover, but some horizontal wood. Usually stained water.

My first choice would probably be a 1/4 jig with a Hank Parker Pro-Cut Frog pork trailer. That combination will fall pretty slowly in the colder water.
Temp rising? Flat sided crankbait shallow.
Temp falling? 1/4 jig ...but, this isnt accurate really since we dont know the depth/structure/pressure.
Where we fish, I would be slow rolling a big spinnerbait, pitching a jig, or throwing a crankbait like a Storm Wiggle Wart (if you have rock).
50 degree, that's hot water compared to what I'm dealing with.

Slowing down, with any bait, is a good place to start. On sunny days the fish may be suspended higher in the vertical timber to get a bit of the sun's warmth, so try a bait that stays up. If you can find a deep(er) hole, there should be a pile of fish there, considering the max depth you mentioned. Good luck!

Well, it looks like the water temp tomorrow is going to be low 40's, air temps around 45, raining and just generally crappy.
I didn't go practice today since tomorrow will be a crap shoot anyway. I have an area where there is some 10-12' water and I will be combing it thoroughly with a jig.

Conditions:
Water temp: 42-43
Air temp: 43-45
Sky: Cloudy w/ rain and drizzle
Water: Stained but stable
Wind: E-NE 5-10
Basically some of the crappiest conditions to fish a tournament in.
I slow rolled a spinnerbait, slow cranked a crankbait, dragged a Carolina rig on deep points, flipped soft plastics of various colors and designs. Even threw a suspending jerkbait.
Oh well...I did have one bite on a jig in 10' of water:
9.62 lbs, 23 1/2" long and 19 1/2" girth.

Jig and hard jerkbait. Jig will get them on the falling water and JB will take em most other times....Fish SLOW....then slow down some more![]()
