    Tungsten weights ?????????

Hello all, I have never used tungsten weights but I am going to start. I have noticed that there are two different types (insert and insert free) and I was wondering what the advantages and disadvantages of each are and which type does evrybody prefer ? I already know that insert ones have the insert and insert free doesn't but I don't know which one is prefered and better. I plan on ordering some from Chris at Dominator and I want to make sure I order what I need first. Thanks for all your opinions and advice. Thanks in advance.

    Re: Tungsten weights ????????? (4508js)

i will say, once you try a tungsten weight, there is no using lead again... i wish i could ge tungsten jigs in the style heads i use and i'd never buy a lead one again...

anyway, i prefer insert free only because i have had the inserts crack/break/fall out and cut my line. the only way i figured it out is because i noticed my line fraying above the knot/weight really bad one day and when i checked my sinker the insert was gone. i was wondering if that would do it so i put some tension on the line and rubbed the sinker up and down it for a while and it ate my line up. on another trip, same thing happened and when i checked the sinker, the insert was broken. i now only use the insert free sinkers.

i may have had some "poor" quality sinkers as i bought them from bass university class years ago. some claim the inserts prevent the line from fraying/breaking. as long as they hold together, that is probably true.

it also easier to us a peg on a one without the insert.

    Re: Tungsten weights ????????? (swilliams)

Yep probably just a bad brand of tungsten weights from someone else. I have had no problems or reports of guys that use both. I have a few guides that ordered insert free and I sent them some inserts as well and they like them both the same..Its all personal preference. Also my inserts are larger diameter that allows larger line sizes to be threaded easier as well...

I have both kinds from Chris (Dominator) and don't really have a preferance one way or the other, both are equally good!
