    Water pressure guage

How difficult is it to put a water pressure guage on a 1990 Johnson 200 GT. I've read everyone on hear talk about watch your water pressure when you raise your motor but I don't have a Water Pressure Guage. Is there another way to monitor the pressure?

You tap in a T to the overboard discharge hose and then feed a line to the gauge at the console.

Yeah, thats what he's talking about. I have a 90 200 GT also, I have a guage on mine, but can't get it to read right. Can you look at your pee hose and tell me what it looks like? Mine is just a 3/8 hose sticking out of the lower cowl. Someone told me that there should be a plastic piece there, no hose visible from the outside. I would appreciate if you could examine yours for me, baseball. If I can get mine to read right, I'll tell ya exactly how to do it.

Take the hose off of the T and blow some air through the line with the gauge disconnected. Some times algae builds up in there and can clog the hose.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I tried that already. I'm stumped!

Rocko, I have a 1990 200 HP XP Evinrude. My pressure gauge is teed into the water supply hose coming from the starboard side of the "Exhaust Housing Adapter" to the "Water Control Valve". The pressure gauge works OK. I do have to blow-out the line to the gauge often. Good luck.

Thanks, I'll try to see if I can run a new hose from there, to try it and see if it may possibly be my hose. What kind of pressure do you normally read at WOT? Thanks!

    Re: (Rocko71)

    Rocko,
My 200 XP had the following water pressues, by my gauge, after a new water pump was installed. At idle, 600 RPM, in the water and in gear = 6.5 PSIG. The max I saw was 15 PSIG at start-up, out-of-gear, at 1200 RPM. At 2400 RPM = 12 PSIG. At 3000 RPM = 13 PSIG. I did not record pressures at any higher RPM. Remember, at about 2,000 RPM or higher, the 3-way valve dumps the water pressure off the t-stat diagrams and the t-stats move off their seats for more water flow for "Power boost cooling". The water pressure drops (less back pressure) when this occurs.

    Rocko,

If my mind serves me correct I do have a plastic piece on mine. I can't look at it now becasue the blue bomb is being wet sanded and motor repainted but when I pick her up this weekend I'll look for sure and let you know.
