    Rappahannock River Tidal Area

    Anyone fished in any of the tidal creeks or bays. I go down every year and fish there and was wondering if any changes had gone on.

    From last year, I experienced alot of bowfin. I know some creeks use to have some lilly pads but they have died off.

    Hows the fishing around Hick's Landing? any tips and tricks would be much appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Brad

    I grew up on that river, its my home water. Actually you can see mom's house from the river. As for fishing the river, no grass, hit the logs and creek mouths. None of the creeks are really all that deep to get up into unless you are sitting at dead high tide. I always stayed north of Hicks Landing in Port Royal, water starts getting shallow down that way down through Green Bay. North of Hicks Landing you should be fine staying between the buoys. Get below there and it can get scary how shallow the water is just outside the buoys. Like I said, north of there, hit the creek mouths, esp where the creek channels and the river meet. Worms, crank baits, etc are your best bets. Actually gonna be down that way in a couple weeks visiting mom. Wont be able to fish much at all if I can

    yea my grandparents live there and i go as much as i can. I usually go below hick's in piscataway, catpoint creeks. This year i have my own boat that can run that shallower water so definately goin to hit Green Bay and mount landing creeks and launch at hicks and head up river and try.

    Be careful at Green Bay, there is a LARGE mudflat, from what I remember, getting in and out of there. Basically its one way in and one way out. The few times I fished it, Green Bay never produced that well for us. I grew up in King George, literally on the river. The other creeks you mentioned are good, I never made it down that far to fish but know other folks that did and they did well in them. I usually fished the mouths of Muddy Creek, Birchwood and a few others along with any logs between the two areas. Good luck.

    thanks for the tips on green bay, my dad said there was like a red marker and ya had to punch and stay as close as you could to get back in to GB.

    i will try muddy creek and birchwood when i get down there, i fished port royal once and that was a bust but i know of some cypress trees that usually produce so i'll hit all those spots in the coming weekends.

    The few times we went to Green Bay there was a small ramp we used, dont remember exactly where though, almost across the river. I never went all the way down to PR unless it was for just a ride, but any of the creeks north of it, good stuff. Good luck and let me know how you did when ya get back. Any other questions, let me know.

    Small world I grew up in King George too. I've fished the river many times. It is a little dangerous river to run esp north of Port Royal, just point your bow at every bouy running north and you'll be fine. the shore line wood at Hicks Landing is really good esp in the fall cooler months. Some of the better creeks that are up north are Baylor's Creek, Piscataway,Mount Landing although they are a good ways north. If you fish at low tide look at the marsh banks, alot of areas will have sunken pallets that make a reverse eddy. These pallets will be right on the drops. Crankbaits, brown/orange jigs or worms, or blue fleck worms.

    yea port royal is a little fast and because of the upper potomac being similar as far as current i think my setup can manage it.

    @Bobby
    Thanks for the tips on what baits to throw. In lower tidal (ie piscataway) minus 1 cranks are good at all times it seems like but just be careful those bowfin tear them up before bass can get to em. I also like a quality senko thats not too soft. so i will give them a try on the wood.
