If you are fishing deeper water and there is a lot of structure present like brushpiles, or other irregular features it would be better to throw a texas rig or jig. You can throw a carolina rig but you will get hung up so much in those situations. When I throw carolina rigs I am looking for flats, ledges, humps, ect. You want to throw the rig on these with minimal cover. You can really do some damage on flats with a c rig because it will let you cover so much more water. Sometimes If the fish are active you can fish the c rig really fast almost like a crank and still catch them. The c rig is going to be better off on things with less structure, and the texas rig will come throug things better that have more obstuctions such as brush, chunk rock, and that sort of thing because you can peg the weight. I fish two lakes mostly near my home. One lake is Norris lake and it is a deep rocky tva lake. There are some brush scattered but its mostly deep drop offs, flats, ledges So I will almost always throw the c rig the majority of the time unless Im fishing docks or brush on the shorline. I fish cove lake state park also which has lots of brush, milfoil, stumps, and shorline cover. There I usually use the texas rig because it will come through all of those so much better.
