I tie the hook with a long tag line,at the end of the tag line I tie the weight about 12" below the hook

take a look on youtube...several videos on there showing how to tie it. Basically tie a palomar knot 8-10 inches from end of line, feed the tag end through the hookpoint side of the eye, put your drop shot weight, bait, then fish. its very easy... skeet reese has a video on you tube that is easy to understand.
