I am interested in the float and fly. All i know is you have a bobber and around a 12ft liter. Does anyone know anything more about this? if so it would greatly be appreciated.
Thanks

I did it a couple of winters on Dale Hollow. I used a 9' float n fly rod from bass pro (~$50), a 1500 series spinning reel filled with 10lb power pro. Tie on a 3 way swivel to the power pro and a fluorocarbon leader to one of the other eyes on the swivel. I used 8lb. On the 3rd eye of the 3 way swivel, attach your bobber. I used Bob's bobber with the weight moved inside the bobber (gives it neutral bouyancy). Add a float n fly jig to the fluorocarbon leader and you're ready to go. Throw it out, let it set a minute. Shake the rod to bounce the bobber a little and then let it sit. Slowly work it back to the boat like this.

How long of a leader did you use for the fly? And far as casting it do you just throw it like you would a regular spinning reel or is there a trick since the leader is usually longer than normal?\
thanks

There are several instructional videos on YouTube to keep you busy. Type in float n fly and they'll come up. As far as leader length, like any other lure, you need to adjust the length/depth until you find the fish.

I use a Browning Noodle rod, but any good float n' fly rod will work. Good real with a good drag. I like the rear drag for float n' fly. 4lb line and I don't use the 3 way swivel. Just a preference. With the swivel you have to basically retie to change your depth. I use a standard non-weighted foam float (round) and usually us an 1/8 oz jig. Go to the website listed below for some of the better float n' fly jigs.

Here is an article I wrote that you might find helpful

I have used the standard set up with the Bob's Bobber, the only thing I don't like is having to retie to adjust leader. Think I will try your method. Thanks for posting!!![]()
Any time. You will want to retie occassionaly just to be safe. I use 4lb line so I usually retie at least 3-4 times daily to avoid too much stress on the line.

I use 4 lb line for alot of my techniques, i have learned the value of retying. The guys in my club give me a hard time about that, but I bring in fish when some don't. Caught 25 lb grass carp in May 2009 on Logan Martin(4lb)test.![]()
I have tried this on Kentucky Lake for smallmouth and not been successful .I did however catch some crappie . :
