I used a Blade bait for the first time yesterday. I caught 2 bass but I lost 8. I'm not getting a good hook set(I don't think). Fishing in 24' of water with current. What type of line would be best for this?

I use 50# braid with a 4' flouro leader seems to work ok for me, I know it sounds a little overkill tho.
Big Basser has a good thought there. Sounds like too much line stretch in current. Some Blade baits also need the hooks replaced as the original is not very good.

I take the stock blade bait and modify it by removing the stock hooks, and adding split rings and size 6 or 4 gami's. the front hook is always red. I'll swap the snap with a split ring, too. for line, I stick with 40lb power pro braid straight through. Typically with blade baits youre getting a reaction strike, so whether they can see the line or not doesnt depend that much. Also, the braid lets me rip a bait off a stump or hangup letting me save a few baits. I like a medium heavy rod, 6'8". With the rod and braid, when a fish bites, it rips the bait into thier mouth and I am yet to lose one with this setup

some great info above... my set up for these is simple... 6ft med action baitcaster... 12# clear big game... snap... same rod I use for spoons and little georges... and spooks and small crankbaits... just a fun little rod that gets it done in the cold water... I've tried longer rods and different lines and come back to this... hook ups never been a problem...![]()
If you fish smallmouth, it is required you have at least 1 6ft med action baitcaster in the boat... I carry 3...
goto a gander mtn or dicks, hit the discount rack and bins... could come up with an entire setup for under 80$! rod reel and line!
