What determines the size lure you tie on? Aside from heavier weights to deal with vegetation or current, are there conditions that dictate larger or smaller cranks or spinnerbaits? What about worm sizes?

One good indicator is time of year to "match the hatch". Early in the year you may see smaller shad or shore minnows, if so, try to match the size of your bait to that. As a completely opposite approach you will hear some folks say to throw a larger bait in an unnatural color so that your lure is distinguishable from the rest of the shad or minnows around it.
i usually use medium to large lures year round, but sometimes i let the fishing pressure dictate my bait size. I've tried using a large than most guys use when there is high fishing pressure got a few bites compared to smaller but got bigger fish![]()
