    ? on swim jigs

My goal for '09 is to learn to fish a jig. I've been doing alot of reading about it and have a question about the swim jigs. Do I need to buy jigs for flipping/pitching and then buy jigs specifically for swimming, or are there any jigs that will serve both purposes? If so, what brand? Thanks for the help folks.

Swimming jigs have a distinct head. I'm sure you can manage to swim other types, but to answer the question, they are different.

Swimmin jigs DO have a different head. Usually come to more of a point and W/O a weedguard. I also use a curl tail grub as a trailer.
Here is a good article I had saved on Swimming jigs. http://www.bassdozer.com/articles/swim-jigs.shtml
    Hope it helps you out.

I would think that the 1st person to ever swim a jig simply used what was in his box.

The shape of the head developed over time.

The fact is...you can swim any jig, but the specialty jigs swim with a better action, or come thru grass a little better.

The jigs I like to swim are an Arkie head with a double wire weedguard. They're not really anything special. But i do prefer the wire weedguard.

This is the best way to sum it up!

I would just use a regular jig.. I find that the swim jigs have to light wire of a hook for me. I use my regular flip jigs. Usually im fishing them on the bottom, and swimming at the same time. sometimes they want one or the other.

I usually swim jigs in and around grass when the spinnerbait isn't working and in that application the specialized swim jig with the smaller line ties directly on the snout of the jig inline with the hook will help you work the grass without dredging cabbage. The 4 or 5 inch Kalin or Chomper grub trailers work well
