    Dam tailrace fishing?

I'm planning on fishing the Guntersville dam tailrace this fall and winter. Any tips on tailrace fishing? Looking mainly for stripes, large and smallmouth bass. I've never used live bait, but might consider it here. Any advice on artificial baits and techniques? A river fisheman... I ain't!

never tried live bait but throwing buck tails in the white water and doing some trolling with crankbaits have always paid off for me

If your new at trail race fishing below a dam floating the current, just get in line with the other boats and follow their drift path. Usually theres a sweet spot to drift and you will see multiple boats in the same area. If using live bait or cutbait I like a 3 way swivel rig and let the sinker just tic the bottom as you drift.
For artificials, a jig head with a sassy shad or 3in grub, a spoon, big spinnerbait. The amount of current generated will kinda dictate retrive method and weight of bait needed.
