OK, I am putting braid on a new reel for jigs, etc.
I will put about 40 to 50 yds of mono as a backing for the braid.
1. Do I need all that backing, or will less do as well?
2. What knot should I use to join the mono backing and the braid? Uni-knot? or?
3. What knot to use when tying on a bait.
I used to know all of this but the forgettor is working better every day. Thanks
I put quite a bit of backing on my reels, I use half or less (75 yards maybe) of a spool of braid for each reel. I like the braid to fill the spool to the proper level. A uni knot works great to jion the lines. I prefer the Berkley braid knot for bait attachment.
i leave enough room for "2 casts worth" of braid and the rest backing... don't ask me how much that is though.
