    intermitant electrical problem

I have a 1983 Johnson 140 HP Model # J140TXTCT, and serial # J6845687. It has an intermittent problem, I feel is electrical. When running it will periodically cut out a cylinder and run on 3 instead of 4. Sometime if I shut it off and restart the engine it will fire back up on all 4 other times I will have to pull the starboard upper plug dry it off and reinstall. The misfire will happen at any speed, while cruising, putting, or under load(pulling a tube). Other times it will go for days and not foul out. I have new plugs, new plug wires, ands I have tried a new coil on that cylinder. What do I test next?

    Welcome to the BBC.

If you have the ability, connect a timing light to each cylinder (replace engine cover each time) when this happens and see if you can find the cylinder that is causing this problem.

I had I dentified the cylinder with the week spart as the starboard top cylinder. I have swapped the power packs to find out if the problem moves, I have a power packissue. if it doesn't I'm guessing Stator. Is my logic correct?

Possible timer base also. Or bad plug wire.

Ok Thank you. I will try motor this weekend, if problem persists, but doesn't move I will try swapping plug wires, they were new this season, but... If that doesn't check out, how do I test the timer base?

    Re: (gfrutig1)

When i swapped the power packs I found some heavy oxidation in the quick connect plugs. I cleaned all connectors and was able to run all weekend without dropping a cylinder.
