best use for a medium/moderate action rod

been using a 6'6" allstar classic gt2 with 12-14lb line for throwing pointer 100's and various 1/2oz plus cranks but i think this medium moderate rod may be better suited with 10lb line for throwing 1/4 -3/8oz baits..........any thoughts im not real familiar with medium moderates

I use my 6'6" GT1 for crankbaits only. I think the rod is to soft for jerkbaits.

Cranking is the best for that action of rod. I also use it for a drop shot. There's not enough backbone for setting hooks in plastic baits.
I like the medium/moderate action for the reason you won't pull treble hooks out of the fishes mouth when fighting a fish. A heavier action rod doesn't have the bend the med action has when using trebles, and it seems a heavier rod pulls the trebles out if too much pressure is applied. I found out the hard way.

AS was said already, it's a crankbait rod.

I used to use a GT-2 as a spinnerbait rod, I think it's a little heavier action than the GT-1. Another possibility is to use it with braided line, the moderate action will be more useful without the stretch that mono has, providing a little cushioning.

Re: best use for a medium/moderate action rod (20_lb_sack)

thanks guys.....normally i feel its too whippy for large jerks but when the waters cold and waves are crashing it seems to be a good rod for deadsticking a jerkbait letting the waves give it action........caught a nice 5lb smallie just inhaled it...no more jerkin with medium heavys for me had a bass rip the hook and split ring off a pointer 100 as it was jumping
