    Rock ledges??????

I have many rock walls and ledges in the lake I fish most. These wall are on the bank. They are almost straight up and the walls run for 100 to 800 feet long. Most places it drops off fast, 15 foot out from wall it will be 15 to 30 foot deep.

My question is when is the best time to fish this type of area. I would think I would hold lots of fish but can't seem to make it work for me. Some places there are rocks sticking out of the water also, These are big rocks and big rock walls.

    Any insight?

    Thanks

I would pitch a jig in the winter or hot summer. Watch your line as the jig falls.

So the fish use the wall in winter and the heat of summer?

Yes, just my experiences here, but in the summer and winter bass for the most part (at least the bigger ones) tend to stay at a constant depth more and use the rock walls as Cover. In the spring and fall they will be roaming more looking for food.

If I am wrong (more than likely ) someone please correct me

I agree Mike. These are the times when they are the most lethargic and rock walls offer a short distance from deep to shallow and back. Jigs are good but try slow rolling big spinnerbaits(3/4oz and up) and deep cranks paralleled to the bluffs. The lakes I fish most have a lot of bluffs too.

I also will throw tubes (or Hula Grub) if they are close to rock ledges, it gives a little different profile than a jig.

    Thanks Guys

So of the bluffs run 500 feet long and they are pretty much straight down up to 25 foot deep at the bluff on some.

Caught one of my biggest bass this year in the heat of summer on a rock ledge with boulders ( car sized and bigger) in 15-25 ft. of water on a deep crank...

Zack, I see you're in Sand Springs. Are you talking about Keystone? If you are, you're wasting your time looking deeper than 10-15ft on that lake. If it's Keystone, go out & pitch into every crack & crevice between the rocks close to the bank, especially if you have a little wind & you see shad in the area. Use a 3/8oz white spinnerbait w/big colorado blade, crankbait (200 Bandit or 5a Bomber) in chart./black back & a 3/8oz black or brown jig with a large green pumpkin chunk.
