Pig & Jig mono or braid

For the most part I have used braided line for pig & Jig fishing I think I will be moving to mono 25lb high sensitivity (Trilene) and I'm curious to what line you guys are using braid or mono and what pond test (pig & Jig) fishing.

Anything on the bottom that requires more feel I use flourocarbon line. The lakes around here pretty much have no grass in them so flouro is about all I'll use. Braid doesn't do well in rocks and GOOD flourocarbon is more abrasion resistent than mono, plus more sensitive. If you haven't tried it buy some good stuff and give it try, you'll like it. Yes it's more expensive than mono but it's worth every penny. IMO

Depending on the amount of cover you have, is what should dictate line choice. I pitch, flip and cast into laydows and pads all day on 15# Vicious Co-Polymer. I don't like flourocarbon, and I have never given braid an honost chance. Why fix something that isn't broke.

If you are fishing open water such as rip-rap banks, channel bends, flats, or points a good line is P-Line Cxx in 17lb test. I throw it all the time and cant hardly break it and its almost invisible. If im throwing a jig in heavy cover such as lay downs or pads I like braid cause fish dont relly seem to be to selective on the visibility of the line and you can rip em out of there and get a really good hook set. Hope this helps gl.

I'm just getting in touch with my flippin and pitchin side, but I've tried braid, mono and fluoro for my big rod and prefer fluoro or good mono over braid. Where I pitch, there are a lot of rocks, and the braid doesn't hold up as well as the other two in those spots. Braid's great for vegetation, but it don't do rocks.

I have good luck with Seaguar and Triple Fish, but IMO Berkley Vanish sucks, have a buddy who has the new Trilene Flouro he says it is the best . I have also heard that BPS is really good, only used it once and had no problems.

I wouldn't recommend braid if you're flipping heavy cover. Braid wraps around wood/limbs and digs in. Then you can't get your fish out. I used it for two or three years until this happened in a Busch Big Bass tournament, and I lost a $10,000 fish. I now use Trilene Big Game in 20# test or greater for flipping. Mono slips over the wood smoothly. Of course, fluoro should work well, too.
