    smallmouth suggestions

any suggestions for fishing smallies in the 20-30 depth ft range? live bait seems to be catching them at this range. ive caught a few on small jerkbaits but i dont believe they are getting down deep enough, i may try adding suspend dots or a split shot. i suppose a carolina rig is another option. any thoughts?

Jigging a spoon is a good way to get deep for me.

3/4oz football jig. Drag it slowly on the bottom, and that will git em.

In the great lakes, It's hard to beat a 4-5 in tube on a heavy jighead. Green w/gold flakes is a common choice here.

Silver Buddy bounced off the bottom works awesome when the water cools

You could put a bullet weight, unpegged, ahead of the jerkbait you've been catching them on. It works.

Drop shot or heavy tube jigs....Don't be afraid to put a tube on a dropshot rig, works great.

I modify a dropshot with rubber bands and large weight for just this thing.

Tungsten on the end of a 5" IKA from GYBC - also depends on wind as to the weight. Braid line, with a Florolcarbon leader.
