There are all kinds of ways to "tweak" a buzzer. You can bend the wire to make it run straight, right, or left. You can bend it to run higher or lower in the water. You can add beads, clackers, bigger/ smaller blades, etc. The possibilities are endless, just use your imagination! The key is to USE them, and use them a LOT, and to try different "tweaks" until it produces the results you want.
If I was just starting to fish them though, I'd buy the 3/8 oz. models from BPS. They're the straightest running out-of-package buzz I've found. Other brands (Lunker Lures in particular) seem to require more tweaks than the BPS models do.

Lunker Lure buzzbaits are probably about my favorite...they are easy to tune...lots of times right out of the package they don't run perfect, but once you mess with them a little bit, they will sound better than anything I've tried before
I tried a Cavitron buzzbait a while back, and didn't like it at all...very quiet, which is good sometimes, but in general I like to start off using a pretty noisy one![]()
^^ It might just be me; I've had HORRIBLE luck with the half-dozen LL buzzers I've tried.
Those from BPS, I catch more fish on than anything else I throw. It's all personal preference though I guess...
