Ive heard of a lot of people using a mono backing on their reel prior spooling on braid. What knot is best for connecting the mono backing to the braid main line ?
thanks

Do they actually join the lines together or just wrap tape around the mono and spool up with Braid on top of the mono?
I actually do this with my reels that hold a lot of line or when I want to use light line on a reel and don't want to put a whole spool of line on.
The Albright Special is the best I've used for joining braid to mono. I've never had a failure. Details on the Albright Special can be reviewed here: http://bakubaits.com/knots.htm .

Works with any size of line, different size lines, or type of lines.

Uni knot is the only way to go.

Technically the best knbot to use would be a bimini twist to double the line and a yucatan knot to attach the two lines. Both knots are going to take some time, but that will be the best way to join two lines and it is how I join braid to Florocarbon. I pre tie at home.
Just thought I would add that the uni knot is easier, not as good as bimini/yucatan, but If I were tying on the boat I would use it to save time.
