Just curious as to which hole the gear shift cable gets attached to in behind the control. I believe one is 2 and 3/4" travel (bottom hole) and the other is a 3" travel (top hole).
Motor is a '91 Rude 200 V6 Limited Edition - VE200SLEID.

Concealed mount or side mount?
It's concealed (ignition is on the console). The control is rounded on towards the bow and squared off towards the stern. Almost a tear drop shape with the pointy end cut square. Hope this helps.
Here is a pic I found:

Easy way to tell is to press the white plastic button in and move the throttle forward. Only the throttle linkage will move not both. The one that doesn't move is the gear shift linkage.![]()
Thanks ChampioNman, but I think the photos I posted were misleading - I just found those online as a reference to the same style control that I have. The gear linkage runs on the top of the control. There are two holes (In the lower pic you can barely see the top hole with the black handle behind it - the other is hidden but directly below the top one). From what I understand the top hole allows for 3 inches travel of the cable and the bottom hole allows for the 2 and 3/4 inches of travel of the cable.
I'm just wondering which hole I should be hooking up my shift cable to for this particular motor.
Thanks again,![]()

Don't matter. Look at the one that moves with the the white button depressed that is the gear shift lock out. When you see that one move that is for the throttle the other is for the gear shift. I'd bet on the short throw though![]()
.
Fred if all of us thanked you with real, we wouldn't get much done
