I kinda like the spooks and the frogs myself. I've had many hits on the frog and spook but only landed about two all together. Those were caught on the spook. I know that there is a thread out on the board that talks about how to fish topwater lure and how to land fish. I know that i've seen it around but can't seem to put my hands on it.
Spooks or Sammy are my favorite next would be frogs and poppers.

I've found that top water baits tend to be lake specific. While you can catch fish with a spook or buzzbait on most lakes. One may consistantly out preform on a perticular lake. For example, I throw the big spook, and buzzbait on lanier, but throw the spook jr, puppy, and on hartwell. My advise, start with the basics. Large and small spooks, buzbaits white or black, small and large pop-rs. Once you find wich style bait is most consistant on a given lake then start to fine tune you baits. If they like the buzzbait start trying different styls and colors. If they like the spook you might want to try a sammy in that color, and if they like the pop-r you could maybe pic up a gunfish. Hope this helps.
I couldn't agree with Shawn more...For example, on Lake of the Ozarks Spooks and buzzbaits did great, on Kerr Resv. in NC POP-X's and R's were great. Each lake has its favorites it seems!!!
I found out that fishing with the big 3/4 inch Mazzuo poppers in water that normally see small ones grab them and tear them up...While fishing a lake in Texas I won the tournament in 4 casts.... why can't all days be like that.....![]()

1) Yellow magic (smaller fish)
2) megabass pop max (best of all if you can bring yourself to spend $29 for lure)
3) zara spook - replace hook attachment with split rings - takes technique to work, but worth it when learned (shorter rod helped me)
4) Dean Rojas bronzeye frog with Gamakatsu hooks
My favorites are;
Super Spook Jr.

NICE RANDY....Speaking of your very good friend, any word on those top secret baits of yours that were headed across the big pond after he got done with them?![]()

I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder... or perhaps the inventor![]()
The Apopalypse will "pop" with the best of them and has a unique "pop and bob" action of its own. It displaces water on the surface as well as below the surface that has proved to be a real attention getter with cruising fish.
The Apopalypse really shines by its weedless design enabling its user to place a top water "popping" type lure in the heaviest cover without getting hung, snagged or requiring treble hooks to be cleaned after each cast.
Additionally, we formulate the Apopalypse in three different buoyancys - top-water, suspended slow fall and fast fall - enabling the lure to be used as a top-water popper, a suspended jerk bait or a stick worm (straight or wacky rigged). The Apopalypse is perhaps the most versatile lure I've personally used and yes, "Bass eat stuff like that" along with Peacock and a whole host of saltwater flats fish.
Sorry for the commercial guys... but I felt an explanation was in order.![]()
