It could be a tap, or a slight tug, or you may not feel it at all, watch your line. If you use an octopus style hook, just swing the rod to your side to set your hook, a slight pressure will set it, no need to cross its eyes.

Rangerman, If you have the RIGHT dropshot rod (very whippy tip) you will see the rod tip load up. The best way to describe the hit is to learn what it feels like not to have a strike. Anything else is a strike.
I would have to disagree with the other guy about setting the hook. I strongly reccomend a reel set on the hook meaning you set the hook with the reel and not the rod especially if you are using dropshot hooks. Those dropshot hooks don't have a EWG gap like worm hooks so by reel setting the hook your hook up ratio is 10 x's better.

for me its when it just has an ''odd'' feeling!!I have gut hooked more fish on dropshot than anything just because I didnt feel anything(and thats when I shoulda reeled in to set the hook)
